787 development back on track, says Boeing

Boeing claims to have found a technical solution to a problem which had once again delayed the deliveries of its new 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

It said it is now ready to address a problem with a small area on the 787’s upper wing joint which needs structural reinforcement.

The aircraft manufacturer said it would reveal a new delivery schedule in the current financial quarter.

The long-range, more environmentally friendly plane is already more than two years behind schedule.

“The 787 programme has identified a technical solution to the previously announced requirement to reinforce an area within the side-of-body joint, and is currently evaluating alternative ways to implement that solution,” it said in a statement.

“The company expects to complete its assessment of the schedule and financial implications during the third quarter.”

It said the total confirmed orders were now for 850 aircraft from 56 customers.
