A half century of Seattle Pride
This year, Seattle celebrates the 50th anniversary of Pride in the city.
In honor of the milestone, the city will commemorate with the theme Now! – celebrating LGBTQIA+ cultural history since 1974 and its legacy now, and for the future.
In June 1974, Seattle Pride was born and since then Seattle has become home to a thriving and active LGBTQIA+ community
Here’s how Seattle is celebrating this huge milestone.
Seattle Pride in the Park (1 June)
Kick off the 50th annual Pride Month celebration in Seattle at Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill. From 12pm-7pm, Pride in the Park will feature a lineup of LGBTQIA+ performances, with a dance-focused stage and adjacent beer garden. Food trucks, local nonprofit booths, queer vendors and more will be open. The family friendly free event will include a Drag Queen Storytime and a teen space.
Studio 54 Ball (8-9 June)
Strike A Pose and Seattle Pride are joining forces to welcome a Pride ball. The Studio 54 Ball will light up the SeaTac Ballroom celebrating the lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community and offering access to community resources. With a 70s theme, all proceeds raised through ticket sales will go to The Stephaun Wallace Advocacy Community Engagement Division, associated with Queer NW, to support ballroom education, ballroom activities, and community resources.
Seattle Pride Parade 2024 (30 June)
Join the display of LGBTQIA+ performers on the 50th annual Seattle Pride Parade, which will take place on Sunday 30 June in Westlake Park along 4th Avenue. Join the largest parade in the state and celebrate 250+ local and national community groups, nonprofits and companies. Accessibility accommodations such as priority seating, ASL interpreters, ADA bathrooms and designated assistants will be available.
‘Rainbow on the Eastside’ Pride Month Art Show (5-28 June)
With 19 diverse artists showing off their talents, the fourth annual “Rainbow on the Eastside” exhibition for Eastside LGBTQIA+ artists will be on view at the Centro Cultural Mexicano (CCM) in Redmond from 5-28 June.
Seattle’s Gayborhood, Capitol Hill
An LGBTQIA+ haven all year round, Capitol Hill is Seattle’s gayborhood. Home to artists, hipsters, musicians and students from all walks of life, it is the place to be for those looking to experience the gay scene of Seattle, with its pride-painted roads. The district has an array of LGBTQIA+ run businesses, such as Broadcast Coffee, Proto101 and Bang hair salon in addition to gay bars Unicorn and the The Cuff Complex.
