Interest in river cruising is on the rise among Americans, according to a new survey by AAA.
It says 14% have taken a river cruise before, but roughly four in 10 would consider a river cruise for a future vacation.
Bucking the perception that river cruising is primarily more appealing to older travelers, the AAA survey found Millennials found several aspects of river cruising more compelling than Gen X and Baby Boomers.
Just 11% of younger travelers have enjoyed a cruise but are more likely to consider one (42% internationally and 45% domestically) compared to older consumers.
"Millennials tend to place great value on experiential travel opportunities and are looking to river cruising as an increasingly viable option for their future vacations," said Bryan Shilling, managing director of AAA travel products and services.
Across the generational divide, about one in four Americans said they are very likely or likely to embark on a river cruise vacation in the US or overseas during the next five years.
The telephone survey polled 1,012 adults through the continental United States from June 23-26, 2016.
AAA says its river cruise booking volume has risen more than 16% in the last year.
