ABTA members are being asked to contribute to a ‘once in a lifetime’ consultation into updating the outmoded EU Package Travel Directive.
A questionnaire is being sent out by the association this week, with members asked to respond by December 22.
An industry-wide group will meet for the second time in early January to collate findings.
ABTA plans to will put together a discussion paper for its board meeting on January 13. The final submission date is February 7.
The working group co-ordinated by ABTA met yesterday (December 1) to discuss the Package Travel Directive consultation.
Representatives from ABTA, Federation of Tour Operators, Association of Independent Tour Operators, Passenger Shipping Association, The Co-operative Travel Group, Advantage and Worldchoice attended.
The consultation covers issues ranging from financial protection, liability, accuracy of information in promotional material, to cancellation rights and complaints.
ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer said: “We are pleased that all the industry has agreed to work together in a once in a lifetime opportunity to contribute to change in regulations which has the potential to greatly benefit the industry and consumers.”
