No one in the travel industry can afford to be complacent next year following a “tremendously tough” 2009.
The warning comes today (Monday) from lastminute.com CEO Ian McCaig.
Due to speak to industry leaders at World Travel Market, McCaig said: “2009 has been a tremendously tough year for the industry across Europe as we have seen recession bit deep intio every market.
“It has been a time to make big and often tough decisions about strategy, investments and people.”
He went on: “I am very clear that 2010 will be just as challenging. No one can be complacent.
“The travel and leisure industry continues to change at breakneck speed and in fact I would argue that recent economic conditions have accelerated the pace of that change.
“All of us need to be prepared to find our places in the business model that’s evolving here and do it quickly. Those who hesitate will indeed be lost.”
