LAN launches new South American Air pass

Monday, 12 Feb, 2007 0

LAN Airlines has launched its 2007 South America Airpass, offering a vast range of flight options throughout its homeland of Chile, and beyond to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The new Airpass enables travellers arriving in South America on international flights to continue to multiple destinations served by LAN and its partners within the continent.

Prices start at USD $85 per sector, with a minimum of three sectors required for each Airpass.

New to the Airpass this year are routes including Lima – Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires – Sao Paulo and  Buenos Aires – Puerto Iguazsu, as well as the Argentine destinations of Calafate, Comodoro Rivadavia, Puerto Madryn and the port of Ushuaia, from where most Antarctic cruise ships depart.

Travellers also can use the Airpass to fly between the remote Chilean territory of Easter Island and LAN’s main hub airport in Santiago.

LAN currently flies from Sydney to Santiago, via Auckland, every day except Thursday, and has plans to increase to daily Airbus A340-300 services later this year.

Within South America, LAN and its partner airlines serve more than 50 destinations with a modern fleet including wide-bodied Boeing 767-300s and a growing number of narrow-bodied Airbus A320-family twinjets.

“South America continues to generate substantial growth in visitor numbers from around the world, as travellers discover the vast range of cultural, historical and natural attractions of the region,” said Rodrigo Contreras, LAN Airlines General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

“Our 2007 Airpass offers visitors the chance to experience some of the world’s most spectacular and diverse terrain – from arid deserts in the north, to breathtaking glaciers in the south, as well as world-renowned attractions including the spectacular Iguazu Falls, centuries-old ruins of the Inca civilisation and the majestic Andes Mountains”.

The Airpass offers eight travel zones, and scaled pricing based on a minimum purchase of three single-sector coupons.

Each sector can be flown only once in the same direction. Local taxes are additional, and can change without notice.

The LAN Visit South America Airpass can only be purchased outside South America in conjunction with an international flight to the region with LAN Airlines or on other carriers. Some conditions apply.
