Air France, Airbus ordered to face trial over 2009 crash

Sunday, 12 May, 2021 0

Air France and plane maker Airbus must stand trial on involuntary manslaughter charges over the Atlantic Ocean crash of a jet more than a decade ago.

Flight AF447, en route to Rio de Janeiro, plunged into the Atlantic during bad weather in 2009 claiming 228 lives.

It was the worst air accident in Air France’s history.

It took two years to locate the wreckage which was found at a depth of nearly 4,000 metres.

The French court ruling overturns an earlier ruling to drop a prosecution.

French investigators said pilots were at fault for mishandling a faulty speed monitoring system.

They said plots reacted incorrectly forcing the plane to stall.

Airbus said that it would lodge an appeal.
