Air India Express plane in runway mishap
Passengers and crew on an Air India Express flight were given a jolt after their plane rammed into a lighting pole by the side of a runway.
No injuries were reported after the incident at Vijayawada Airport when the just landed plane was taxiing to the gate.
"The aircraft hit the pole there and it has fallen down with minor damage to the wing," Vijayawada Airport Director Giri Madhusudan Rao said.
"All 64 passengers on board the flight and the crew are safe."
Rao suggested it was possible pilot error.
"The captain followed leading margin line instead of the central yellow line. As a result, the flight’s right wing hit the ights pole.
The flight had arrived from Doha and was scheduled to continue to Tiruchirappalli.
The airport termed it as a ‘minor accident’ but the plane was taken out of service and passengers continuing to Tiruchirappalli were re-accommodated on another flight.
