Jamaica flight makes emergency landing
A JetBlue flight departing Jamaica was forced to return and make an emergency landing at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport.
The carrier said six passengers were taken to hospital for medical evaluation.
JetBlue flight 876 was scheduled for Fort Lauderdale and turned back to Kingston just 15 minutes after take-off on Monday night.
The aircraft returned "after a report of a smoke odor," JetBlue said on its website.
An early media report also said the pilot "saw something untoward" in the cockpit.
The plane had 98 passengers and four crew aboard and landed safely.
According to a Jamaica Gleaner newspaper report, Airports Authority of Jamaica official Alfred McDonald said the unspecified injuries to the six passengers occurred when exiting the plane.
The incident caused some minor delays for other scheduled take-offs from the airport.
On Friday a JetBlue flight had to make an emergency landing at New York JFK after being hit by a flock of birds mid-flight.
