Airlines can now plot their own path across the Atlantic
Airlines are set to reap much needed fuel savings as UK and Canadian airspace authorities will allow pilots to chart their own flight path across the Atlantic. This is possible thanks to vastly reduced transatlantic traffic due to the Covid pandemic.
On days when traffic is particularly light, pilots will be able to take paths ‘based entirely on optimum route, speed and trajectory.’ This could amount to better efficiency with increased punctuality and less fuel burn.
