US airlines are now asking for help from passengers to reduce long security lines at the nation’s airports.
On behalf of US airlines, industry trade group Airlines for America has launched a website iHateTheWait.com, to encouraging travelers to post photos of long screening lines on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #iHateTheWait.
It aims to ‘raise awareness of the issue and serve as crowd-sourced information,’ said A4A spokeswoman Jean Medina.
Wait times at many airports have topped 90 minutes with fears it will only get much worse as the busy summer travel season kicks in.
The Transportation Security Administration announced it is increasing staffing at security checkpoints and boosting the number of bomb-sniffing dogs.
The agency is securing extra funds from Congress to pay for additional overtime and hire up to 800 new agents.
During the last three years the number of TSA screeners has been cut by 10% in the ultimately false hope that many more people would sign up for the expedited PreCheck program.
