Airport evacuation caused by bear spray

The recent airport evacuation at Nashville International was a result of a discarded bear spray can.

Part of the airport was cleared after noxious fumes caused breathing difficulties for travelers and airport employees.

Airport officials have finally shared what caused the ‘unpleasant odor.’

The Nashville Fire Department was called to respond to ‘airborne causing breathing problems,’ but it remained a mystery for several days.

The FAA also issued a ground stop temporarily to allow a full sweep of the affected area.

After air quality testing, no hazardous materials were detected at the time.

However, video footage showed a trash collection inadvertently activated a canister if bear spray thrown into the trash bin.

Authorities believe a passenger unwittingly took it through TSA screening undetected, realized it was in their bag and then dumped it before boarding a flight.
