Airport workers arrested for suspected human trafficking
Four Indian airport workers and a passenger have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.
The four employees of AISATS, a subsidiary of Air India parent Tata, were detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International.
A passenger who was scheduled to fly to Birmingham on an Air India flight was also arrested.
The passenger was initially denied travel due to ‘doubtful’ travel documents a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson said.
He was then seen with an AISATS staffer who allegedly colluded with other colleagues to check in with ‘wrong or invalid’ documents.
The CISF have opened a case of suspected trafficking as at least one of the suspects has admitted that payments have been made to facilitate travel with fake documents.
A spokesperson said the rate was INR40,000.
The AISATS ground workers were named as Rohan Verma, Mohammad Jahangir, Yash, and Akshay Narang and the passenger was identified as Diljot Singh.
