Aldi Travel entered the top 10 most visited UK travel agency websites in its first few days of operation.
The new website was launched last week with a major media campaign promising holidays up to 50% cheaper than major tour operators.
The launch generated coverage in daily newspapers and live interviews on BBC Breakfast TV and radio stations.
According to the latest Hitwise figures, following its launch last Thursday, Aldi Travel entered as the number nine most visited UK travel agency web sites.
But it fell to number 12 on Friday, to 19 on Saturday and dropped to 26 on Sunday.
The discount chain, which has 400 stores across the UK, is using the technology platform and administrative services of On Holiday Group (OHG).
OHG CEO Steve Endacott said: “The timing of the launch of Aldi Travel could not have been better, as many consumers begin to shop around more for market leading prices from a brand they trust.
“Via it’s 400 plus UK stores, Aldi provides the perfect outlet for the cost effective promotion of holidays via its bi-weekly travel deals brochure to a target audience dominated by females, who we all know control the holiday purse strings.”
Aldi is only working with a limited number of suppliers who can guarantee exclusive deals.
The retailer, which has 7,000 stores globally, already sold holidays in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
