Alibaba’s travel platform Alitrip has a new name.
It has been quietly rebranded and renamed as ‘Fliggy’ or ‘flying piggy.’
Called Feizhu in Chinese, the rebrand is aimed at capturing more of the millennial market.
"We embrace diversity and respect all creeds and religions. The name change is meant to reflect this demographic’s aspirations to pursue dreams, sit back and enjoy life," a spokesman told the BBC.
This was a response after there was some criticism on social media from Chinese Muslims decrying the pig reference in the new name which itself provoked some anti-Muslim anger across China.
