Amadeus study finds high level of traveller confidence in vaccine passports

Sunday, 07 Apr, 2021 0

The vast majority of travellers would feel comfortable using a digital health passport for future travel, according to a new study commissioned by Amadeus.

It found that just over 9 in 10 (91%) of travellers surveyed said they would be comfortable with a ‘vaccine passport’ style app.

The survey comprised more than 9,000′ travellers’ in Europe, the UK, US, India, UAE, Russia and Singapore.

In tech-savvy Singapore, the acceptance rate for vaccine passports was up to 96%.

However, a similar number of travellers globally (93%) do have some concerns around how health data for travel would be stored.

Just under three quarters (74%) said they would be willing to store their travel health data electronically if it enabled them to pass through the airport faster.

Over 7 in 10 (72%) travellers surveyed would be willing to store their travel health data electronically if it enabled them to travel to more destinations.

Concerns travellers have with data storing on these apps are security risks with personal information being hacked (38%) and privacy concerns around what health information needs to be shared (35%).

Additionally, 42% of travellers said a travel app that could be used across the whole journey would vastly improve their overall travel experience and reassure them their information is all in one place.

A similar percentage also said a digital health app would reduce their stress around travel.

Apps that provide alerts and in-trip notifications, contactless mobile payments and mobile boarding are all enhancements through tech that  would increase confidence in travel, the survey found.

"There is no doubt that Covid-19 will continue to shape the way we travel for the months ahead, just as it influences so many other areas of our lives," said Decius Valmorbida, President, Travel  Amadeus.

"Collaboration across governments and our industry is the key to restarting travel, as we deliver on traveller expectations outlined in this Rebuild Travel digital health survey."
