American expanding in-flight Wi-Fi to 500 regional jets
American Airlines is adding high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi across its regional aircraft fleet.
It will fit Intelsat high-speed Wi-Fi on nearly 500 regional aircraft starting next year.
The roll out will take two years to complete.
American currently has in-flight Wi-Fi available on more than 900 mainline aircraft.
The airline is installing Intelsat’s Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antennae which taps both Intelsat’s geo-stationary satellites and Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites.
This will allow regional aircraft to match fast Wi-Fi speeds that are available on the mainline aircraft.
