American outlines Hawaii wildfire relief efforts
American Airlines is conducting a three-pronged effort to help relief efforts in Maui after the Hawaii wildfires.
It has added Hawaii flights to and from Maui and upgraded aircraft to help evacuate as many people as possible.
Since the Hawaii wildfires it has helped evacuate more than 4,200 customers from the island.
American has provided blankets, pillows, onboard amenity kits, water and other supplies to customers at the airport and throughout the island.
In addition to stocking Hawaii flights with water, blankets and amenity kits, American is working with nonprofit organizations Feeding America and Baby 2 Baby.
This is for shipments of critical supplies such as nonperishable food, baby formula, diapers, and more.
American is also supporting the Red Cross disaster relief efforts.
AAdvantage loyalty members can earn 10 AAdvantage bonus miles for every dollar donated with a minimum of $25 donation to the Red Cross.
To provide additional flexibility to customers, American issued a travel alert, allowing customers to rebook without fees, cancel or receive a refund.
Also, for customers wishing to bring essential relief supplies, the airline is waiving fees for the first and second pieces of checked luggage until August 25.
