ANA orders 50 Boeing Dreamliners

Saturday, 27 Apr, 2004 0

The airline manufacturer Boeing has reportedly taken the first firm order
for its new Dreamliner aircraft, after the Japanese carrier ANA committed
itself to buying 50 of the jets for some GBP3.4 billion.

The carrier will reportedly start taking delivery of the new 250-seat
aircraft in 2008. The Guardian reports that the purchase represents a
serious salvo in the battle between Boeing and Airbus; the latter claimed
the title of the world’s biggest manufacturer last year, delivering more
planes for the first time.

Mike Bair, head of the Dreamliner team, is quoted as saying: “It’s a
validation of our view of the marketplace. With that firm order we are
formally launching the project.” He added that he anticipated the company
has the potential to sell 3,500 of the jets in the next 20 years.

The Dreamliner uses 20% less fuel than traditional jets.
