ARC will move to daily reporting
ARC has announced that it is introducing daily sales reporting for US airlines, despite saying for some time that it had no plans to do so.
ARC president and chief executive, David Collins said: “Although we have truthfully said on a number of occasions in the past that we had no plans for instituting daily reporting, that situation has now changed as a result of the prolonged crisis in the airline industry that threatens the viability of air transportation in the US as we know it”.
Mr Collins added that ARC “will not be talking about daily remittance”, but said: “we will be looking at the current disparity between the billing of credit transactions daily and the settlement of cash transactions 10 to 17 days later”.
GENESIS president Bruce Bishins (pictured) has wasted no time in criticising the move. He said: “Not talk about daily remittance? Who is Collins kidding? ARC has lied in the past, and who among us believes them now?”
GENESIS is an agency-owned point-of-sales system incorporating reservations, ticketing, supplier settlement, and agency accreditation. It’s value as an agency tool has been heavily debated on TravelMole.
The changes will also see ARC crack down on agents who are misusing the voiding function. It was designed to cancel transactions where an error had been made, but is apparently being used by agents to void transactions that have actually taken place.
Mr Collins said that there had been an increase in the fraudulent use of the function. He said “With the increasing losses the airlines have to underwrite from improper voiding, the airlines are seriously questioning the integrity of the system.”
The changes are targeted for implementation in 2003, and will see transaction data sent to each ticketing carrier five times a week.
