Expedia Group has unveiled its new study highlighting the travel preferences of the growing Asian middle class.

It expects the Asian middle class to swell to 3.5 billion people by 2030, accounting for two-thirds of the world middle class.

The study gives a snapshot of how Asian travellers are looking to travel.

Conducted in partnership with Atomik Research, the study surveyed 4,000 respondents across China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

It found significant growth in mass affluent Asian travellers visiting Europe and want to spend 23% of their income on average on travel.

It also highlighted a number of trends for travel to the UK.

Nearly 2 in 3 Asian travellers who plan to visit the UK (64%) say they are going to book or request a 4-or 5-star hotel.

Nearly 3 in 5 mass-affluent Asian travellers who plan to visit the UK say they are going to book or request airline travel upgrades on their next international trip.

Half say they are also going to book or request private tours or excursions.

Three-quarters of Asian travellers visiting the UK (76%) say they would most likely spend more money on experiential excursions with cultural immersion.
