Australia and China have revised the bilateral air services agreement now allowing for unlimited seat capacity on routes between the two countries.
The agreement announced Sunday removes limits on the number of passengers able to fly between major cities in Australia and China.
"China is Australia’s fastest growing and highest spending international visitor market," Steven Ciobo, Australia’s minister for trade, tourism and investment, said in a release.
The industry has welcomed the move as a game-changer for tourism.
It creates ‘the foundations for long-term growth in the Australia-China aviation network, at a time when the Qantas Group has its biggest ever presence in the market,’ Qantas said.
"We’re delighted this new agreement recognises the huge potential of the Chinese market to Australia’s tourism and trade," said Sydney Airport CEO Kerrie Mather.
The airport has welcomed six new routes to China so far in 2016.
