Australian tourists face charges for destroying pro-Palestine banners
Two Australian tourists could face charges after one of them ripped up pro-Palestine posters displayed on a wall.
One of them tore down posters while the other filmed it.
A case has been filed by Fort Kochi Police against Zara Shilensky Michele, 38 and another female.
The two women were initially named under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code for ‘wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot.’
Video posted online went viral showing the tourist in a heated argument with locals.
Police said Australian embassy officials have been informed.
The incident was initially reported to police by a local Islamic student group.
Both Australians are of Jewish origin.
Police said they could be formally charged later today.
