Beijing Airport implements comprehensive biometric passenger screening
The world’s second busiest airport has tapped aviation tech manufacturer SITA to speed up passenger flows with biometrics.
Beijing Capital International is using the SITA Smart Path product which is its most comprehensive use of biometrics yet.
Before the pandemic Beijing Capital handled 95 million passengers a year.
SITA Smart Path offers a fully automated process from check-in to boarding, powered by facial recognition.
Passengers need register once by verifying their ‘facial token’ at check-in.
It covers contactless touch points at the bag drop point, security screening and boarding and can be used when paying for duty-free items without presenting the boarding pass.
These self-service kiosks will drive efficiencies at the airport and together they will process close to 20,000 passengers per day. Saving passengers’ time is a win-win for everyone," May Zhou, VP and General Manager of SITA China.
SITA says it improves processing time and enhances safety in the Covid-19 era, allowing for shorter queuing times and eliminating contact between airport staff and travellers.
There are 600 biometric checkpoints at the airport, including 250 lanes of automatic gates, 80 kiosks and 30 self-bag drop stations.
