Biden’s war of ‘junk fees’ pays off
A number of companies have pledged to be fully transparent with travel and ticket costs after being pressured by the Biden Administration.
Airbnb along with SeatGeek and Ticketmaster have pledged to display the full price upfront.
It comes after a campaign by the government to end the hidden ‘junk fees’ many companies charge but only display at the last minute.
The President has called on Congress to pass the ‘Junk Fee Prevention Act.’
“This deal shows collective bargaining works,” Biden said.
The companies haven’t actually said they will ditch the fees but will be more transparent about them.
Other event organizers and ticketing platforms have vowed to display all-in pricing from the outset.
“Airbnb has started giving customers the option of seeing all-in prices since we called for action last year, and other businesses are committing today,” Biden added.
The practice is common for travel bookings via OTAs and some airlines and for resort fees with hotels.
In recent years, states have been cracking down on resort fees imposed by hotel chains.
