CAA announces aviation fee proposal

CAA announces aviation fee proposal

Tuesday, 19 Nov, 2024 0

The Civil Aviation Authority has formally opened a consultation period for proposed scheme of charges effective from next year.

The regulator has proposed a below-inflation increase in industry fees at 1.6%.

Proposed new charges also cover technologies including EVTOL and vertiports, the CAA says.

The consultation document outlines proposals for how the regulator bills the industry.

It says the suggested charges are focused on the CAA’s mission of protecting the public and enabling the efficient use of aerospace.

It also responds to the demand for capacity and reliability, it says, while also reflecting rapid tech advances, like decarbonisation and digital transformation.

Tracey Martin, Chief Financial & Operations Officer at the CAA said: “Effective regulation can be a positive force for innovation and safety. It is essential that we are focused on the future and keep pace with rapid changes.”

“We have proposed a reasonable balance of our regulatory obligations with investment in future innovation,” she added.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s statutory charges would represent about 45p per UK passenger journey next year.

The consultation seeks industry feedback and is open for an eight-week period, until 15 January 2025.

Following the consultation period, the Civil Aviation Authority will publish a response document reflecting the feedback.
