CAA cuts Heathrow Airport fees

CAA cuts Heathrow Airport fees

The UK Civil Aviation Authority published its Heathrow Airport fees final decision.

It relates to the annual caps that will apply for charges levied on airlines for using the airport through 2026.

The regulator said charges for 2023 will remain fixed at the level set out in its interim decision earlier.

The average maximum price per passenger will then fall by about 20% from £31.57 per this year to £25.43 in 2024.

Heathrow Airport fees will then remain broadly flat at that level until the end of 2026.

The average charge over the five years will be £27.49.

This lower level recognises that passenger volumes are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Richard Moriarty, CAA chief said: “Our priority is to ensure the travelling public can expect value for money and paying no more than is needed.”

“Our job is to reach an independent decision from conflicting commercial interests.”

“We are confident our final decision represents a good deal for consumers using Heathrow.

Shai Weiss, CEO, Virgin Atlantic, responded: “Heathrow has abused its power, peddling false narratives and flawed passenger forecasts.”
