Canada based low-cost airline Lynx Air announced it will cease all operations in a few days time.
The sudden announcement was a surprise, although the airline says it has been struggling against ‘financial pressures’ for some time.
The airline will officially cease all flights from Monday 26 February.
“The pressures associated with inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, cost of capital and regulatory costs have proven too steep a mountain for our organization to overcome,” a website message stated.
“It is with a heavy heart we leave the skies.”
It aims to operate ‘most’ scheduled flights this weekend (24-25 February) but some flights would be cancelled.
Customers affected by cancelations will be contacted.
This hasn’t happened for all.
Some travelers today reported getting notice their flight was canceled while they were at the departure gate.
Lynx Air advised customers with bookings to contact their credit card company for refunds but said its own customer service department ‘will not be available to assist with refunds.’
Lynx Air launched services less than two years ago. It operated flights within Canada and to the US and Mexico.
