Canada ready to approve Boeing 737 Max

Wednesday, 18 Dec, 2020 0

Canada is set to clear the grounded Boeing 737 Max to fly again but is asking for a few subtle changes compared to the US FAA airworthy directive.

It is approving the required design changes made to the aircraft following two deadly crashes which prompted its global grounding.

Transport Canada said it will approve the plane but unlike the FAA will allow pilots the option to disable a ‘stick shaker.’

This is ‘a loud and intrusive warning system’ which emits a noise when the system has been erroneously activated.

In their proposed airworthiness directive, European regulators also indicated they will allow pilots to disable it.

"This feature will help to reduce pilot workload given what has been learned from the two tragic accidents, and has been fully evaluated by Transport Canada," the agency said.

"There will also be differences in training, including training on the enhanced flight deck procedure," Transport Canada said.

It said final clearance will likely come in January 2021.
