Carnival expects $10 million hit from Baltimore bridge collapse
Carnival Cruise Line expects to be impacted to the tune of about $10 million due to the temporary closure of cruise operations in Baltimore.
The cruise line has shifted its operations for Carnival Legend to Norfolk, Virginia while the clean continues after the catastrophic bridge collapse.
A cargo ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing a complete collapse.
“The city and the Port of Baltimore have been our longtime partners and a home to many loyal guests,” said CEO Josh Weinstein.
“Fortunately, our team has quickly secured a temporary home port in Norfolk for as long as it’s needed, which should help to minimize operational changes.”
“We look forward to getting back to our home in Baltimore as soon as possible.”
Carnival Legend is currently sailing and will return to Norfolk this weekend.
Guests on future cruises have been notified their departure has been move to Norfolk.
Weinstein was speaking as Carnival Corp announced record Q1 revenues with booking volumes at an all-time high.
It posted revenues of $5.4 billion with record net yields, courtesy of a ‘monumental” wave season, he said.
Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean is ‘exploring alternatives’ for ship Vision of the Seas which homeports in Baltimore.
This ship is due to return on April 4.
