Cathay introduces new long haul cabins
New seats, cabin design and in-flight entertainment are being introduced on Cathay Pacific long haul routes.
The new-look is currently available on one of four flights a day between Heathrow and Hong Kong
It will be installed on all the airline’s new aircraft and also retrofitted on long-haul aircraft already in service.
First, business and economy class cabins have been revamped with new seats.
The economy seat is claimed to be the first in the airline industry to offer a fixed living space and recline without intruding on passengers seated behind.
With a “fixed back†design, it allows passenger to recline without encroaching on the personal space of others.
The seat frame and structure has been designed to maximise knee and shin clearance and remove awkward fixtures and fittings that undermine comfort.
Other features include a bigger personal television and the introduction of audio and video entertainment on demand.
The business class cabin has been redesigned in a “fishbone†layout that allows unrestricted aisle access from each new seat.
The seat in first class can be used as an armchair, a chaise longue or an extra long and wide bed.
The bed is believed to be the largest provided on any commercial airline and added comfort comes through the use of a mattress, duvet and lumbar massage function, the airline said.
An ottoman in the suite and an extendable table means passengers can invite friends or colleagues to join them in their suite in-flight.
The airline’s European general manager Philippe de Gentile-Williams said: “We are confident that we have created a cabin that fulfilled passenger’s needs and re-iterated Cathay Pacific’s position as a world class premium airline.
“The design brief highlighted passenger desire for a product that provides more privacy and control over the immediate environment.â€
The new product reflects Cathay Pacific’s focus on quality and attention to detail and we have received great feedback from our passengers to date.â€
