Cathay Pacific pokes fun at itself after plane livery typo

In this industry it always pays to proofread your work before announcing it to the world.

Unfortunately no one told Hong Kong based Cathay Pacific to do likewise.

The airline has become the butt of jokes on social media after an embarrassing slip-up during a recent paint job.

Somehow the newly painted plane passed quality control with the glaring typo ‘CATHAY PACIIC.’

The airline did see the funny side and has embraced the ridicule.

"Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!" the airline tweeted complete with a photo of the spelling snafu.

"We did not intend to make it a big fuss in the first place, but photos went viral within the aviation enthusiastic groups, so we just shared the hilarious moment with everyone," a Cathay Pacific spokesperson told CNN.

An engineer at Haeco, the airline’s sister company responsible for maintenance and livery, said he was mystified how it could happen.

"The spacing is too on-point for a mishap. We have stencils. Should be a blank gap in between letters if it was a real mistake I think," he told the South China Moening Post.
