Changes Make an Impact at Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport

Monday, 23 Sep, 2016 0

Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport is located in Lijnden near Amsterdam Airport. This contemporary, modern hotel has its own airport shuttle to comfortably transport guests directly from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to the hotel. The airport and cities of Haarlem and Hoofddorp are a short 10 minute drive.

Green Globe has recertified Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport for the third consecutive year.

Consumption of natural resources is one of the key areas at the heart of the hotel’s management and operations. Energy, water, and waste are regularly monitored with annual reduction targets set at 2% and lighting in all hotel rooms has been replaced with LED lights to conserve energy. Comprehensive CSR policies apply to all Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts properties which aim to reduce carbon emissions by a total of 20% by the end of 2017.

Team members are actively involved in improving sustainable business practices. Green Globe Team meetings are conducted monthly to update information about resource management and plan events that raise environmental or social awareness. In addition, sustainability training is held for colleagues twice a month to disseminate information and implement initiatives. Small changes can contribute to energy reduction goals and a lower carbon future and team members are encouraged to switch off all office equipment, ventilation and lights when leaving the office.

Green Meetings at the hotel offer environmentally friendly options including no linen on tables, re-usable table decorations in place of fresh flowers and Chaudfontaine water served in small glass bottles instead of plastic to avoid waste. To conserve energy, a BMS (Building Management System) regulates temperatures based on whether the group is large or small. Lights in hallways near meeting rooms can be dimmed by the Front Office team or manually controlled within rooms. Conference telephone and videoconference options are also available.

In 2015, as part of its local social initiatives, Park Plaza Amsterdam Airport generously donated delicious, hot soup to the Salvation Army’s Soepbus (Soup Bus) in Amsterdam. In the second half of the year, after Summer, the Soup Bus staffed by volunteers hands out warm soup to people living on the street. The hotel makes and donates soup every first Friday of the month to this charitable cause.
