Cheapflights helps shift late stock
Cheapflights.co.uk has launched a system that displays high season stock for customers that can’t avoid peak season.
Cheapflights director of business development, Liz Faherty told TravelMole: “Last summer we weren’t really doing our users much of a service by not having high season fares on the site. That was because our system knocks out the higher fares. However, many people can’t avoid going on holiday then.”
Consequently Cheapflights has launched a tab system that allows people to view availability even in the high season when fares are not at their lowest. The tabs also display business or first class fares where applicable, which is about 75 of the Cheapflights destinations.
“This is key for this time of year because people can’t avoid travelling in July and August”, said Ms Faherty.
Cheapflights does not sell product, such as lastminute.com or Expedia, but acts as a comparison site where people can look at what’s on offer from about 250 ‘advertisers’, including traditional and no-frills airlines as well as online agents.
Ms Faherty added: “Dealing with high season stock just wasn’t a problem a few year’s ago because it was already sold by now, but with so much more competition, things have changed.”
The tab system is also being considered for the Cheapflights’ holiday website, cheapholidaydeals.co.uk. The website compares the prices of about 340 advertisers, including TUI and First Choice, on a pay per click basis.
