Cheapflights reveals busiest search days

Monday, 06 Oct, 2016 0

Thursday is the quietest day of the week for flight research, with Saturday and Sunday the most popular, according to statistics by Cheapflights, which also reveals Tuesday is the cheapest day to fly.

The company’s first report into the search, book and spend habits of its users shows the most popular time of day for searches is 8pm and only 8% go online before 6am to search for a bargain.

Cheapflights’ Compass Report shows mobile device use continues to grow.

Smartphones and tablet use accounted for over 60% of total Cheapflights demand between August 2015 and July 2016, a growth of 37% year-on-year.

Mobile device users are likely to visit four times more frequently than desktop users, and stay on the site for longer when they do (5.1 minutes compared to 3.2 minutes for desktop users).

Following the court victory by Jon Platt over an Isle of Wight council fine for taking his daughter outside of the school holidays in May, Cheapflights saw searches for term-time

travel to family destinations such as Lanzarote, Malaga, Gran Canaria and Florida leap by 50%, while searches to the same destinations during the traditional holiday periods declined by over 20%.

The most popular departure day for travel is Friday, although after Sunday, it is also the most expensive.

Tuesday is the cheapest day to fly and the quietest. Holidaymakers willing to travel mid-week can save on average £145pp by flying on a Tuesday rather than a Sunday.
