CLIA: Shorter cruises driving robust cruise sales volume
Three-quarters of US travel agents are seeing an increase in cruise vacation sales this year, CLIA said in its latest state of the industry report.
The Travel Agent Research Panel survey of 1,000 agents found 77% reported higher sales volume and 74% expect cruise clients to spend more this year.
Multigenerational cruise vacations continue to rise, the data says, and there is higher demand this year for shorter duration cruises.
Demand for all-inclusive bookings is also up with the option of all-inclusive cruises the most effective way to lure new cruisers.
Almost half (47%) of agents rated ocean cruises as giving the best customer satisfaction of any type of vacation, ahead of all-inclusive resorts and land-based vacations.
"Travel agents have their fingers on the pulse of what is happening in the cruise industry. By tapping into insights through the Travel Agent Cruise Industry Outlook report, the industry is able to forecast upcoming travel and traveler behavior trends and tailor business strategies accordingly," said CLIA CEO Cindy D’Aoust.
More than two-thirds of CLIA agents said they have seen an increase in bookings from Boomers and more than half from the Gen X age range.
