Co-op strives to halt staff turnover
Co-op Travel is launching a training scheme designed to fast track staff through the ranks to management level.
The scheme, Aim High, hopes to increase job satisfaction and increase staff retention in an industry notorious for its high employee turnover.
Individuals can nominate themselves for the internal, on-the-job courses – which are linked to NVQ qualifications – or be nominated by their managers.
Group training and development manager Gaynor Golding said companies are missing out on potential “stars” by failing to focus on training.
“Our opinion is that any employee is only worth what an employer invests in them,” she said.
Aim High can take junior staff from modern apprentice level all the way to regional manager and beyond, she added.
Two courses have been devised. The first is aimed at aspiring managers and the second for those who have achieved management level and want to progress further through the company.
The agency has appointed former United Co-op employee Ashley Williams as management development and training manager to work on the project.
