Come fly and buy: Malaysia Airlines
PENANG – MAS Golden Holidays, the tour agency arm of national carrier Malaysia Airlines, has just launched the Malaysia Stopover Property Investment/2nd Home package in collaboration with Henry Butcher Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a real estate investment consultancy with an international network.
The package, the first of its kind, offers foreigners a special stopover package with Penang chosen for the pilot project.
On the choice of Penang MAS Golden Holidays’ assistant general manager, Yazid Mohamed, said it was to attract more tourists to the island and, at the same time, encourage them to invest in the real estate there.
The inaugural 3 days/2 nights Penang My 2nd Home package is targeted to attract foreigners to Penang and includes hotel accommodation with daily breakfast, return airport transfers, a tour of participating developers’ projects, a brief on Penang’s property market, city tour, shopping and a golfing session.
MAS Golden Holidays is targeting 7,500 foreigners to visit Penang under this pilot project and expects to double the figure in four to five years.
“Eventually we hope to register an estimated 25,000 foreigners annually to Malaysia under this programme,” said Yazid.
MAS sees this project paving the way for similar programmes to showcase Malaysia’s tourist attractions and properties. This, in turn, will help in the development of Malaysia’s tourism industry and tourism- related businesses.
The package is also in tandem with the Malaysian government’s “Malaysia My Second Home” programme, which offers foreigners the opportunity to purchase properties in Malaysia and invest in long-term stay,
According to Henry Butcher Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer Dr Teoh Poh Huat, investors are looking at Malaysia due to the soaring property prices in China, Middle East and Western countries,
