Cruise lines ‘will target’ retailer database
Potential buyers will start picking over the pieces of defunct retailer Cruise Control as the dust settles on the company failure, industry experts have predicted.
While the business is thought to have little in the way of saleable assets, its database of customer names and addresses is likely to attract the interest of a number of cruise companies. It claimed to be the largest independent cruise retailer with 16% of the market.
The company folded earlier this week with debts of around £10 million.
One source said such a database – it is said to have a mailing list of 100,000 – would be hugely beneficial for a cruise company.
“The database is full of existing cruisers and those who have an expressed an interest in cruising. It holds an awful lot of potential business,” said one source. “It is a ready-made list for cruise operators and I expect them to show an interest in acquiring it. Cruise Control claimed to have 16% of the market. That’s 160,000 customers.”
PricewaterhouseCoopers said it was too early to say what will happen to the business. Colin Haig and Ian Oakley Smith have been appointed joint liquidators and are currently writing to creditors.
