Cruises restart from Baltimore

Cruises restart from Baltimore

Tuesday, 28 May, 2024 0

Baltimore is back on the cruise map.

The first two cruise ships departed from Baltimore at the weekend for the first time in over two months following the Key Bridge collapse.

Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Sea kicked off Baltimore cruise operations again as it left on Saturday for a five-night Bermuda cruise.

Carnival Pride followed a day later and headed north on a 14-day sailing to Greenland and Canada.

The Port of Baltimore was closed to shipping after the March 26 bridge incident.

The bridge completely collapsed after a cargo ship slammed into one of its support columns.

“The Port of Baltimore is back, cruising is back. It’s absolutely great to be able to welcome everybody here,” Port of Baltimore Director Jonathan Daniels said.

The Port of Baltimore’s main 700-feet wide channel is expected to be fully reopened by the end of May, the port authority said.

Lat year about 440,000 passengers took a cruise from Baltimore.

The cruise lines had used Norfolk, VA as a temporary departure port for the ships while Baltimore remained closed.
