Delta flight lands safely despite landing gear failure
A Delta flight was forced into an emergency landing at Charlotte after nose landing gear failed to deploy.
After circling in the air for some time to try to rectify the issue, the pilot declared an emergency situation.
The flight from Atlanta was carrying 96 passengers.
In air traffic control audio, the pilot said: “We have a nose wheel update indication, we’re gonna have to go ahead and declare an emergency.”
Flight crew received ‘nose gear unsafe’ alert as the plane approached Charlotte.
Passengers were warned to go into the brace position.
The pilots did a ‘phenomenal job’ in landing safely, the mother of one passenger tweeted.
With the nose on the tarmac, passengers deplaned via an emergency slide.
All exited without any injuries.
Landing gear failures like this were a ‘rare occurrence,’ Delta said.
“Crews train extensively to safely manage through many scenarios.”
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.”
The incident closed the runway at Charlotte Airport for several hours.
