Delta flight badly damaged in severe hail storm
A Delta Air Lines plane was forced into an emergency landing after flying through a severe hail storm.
The plane’s nose was damaged with a huge hole.
A wing was also damaged.
It had just taken off from Milam heading to New York JFK.
It immediately diverted to Rome where it landed safely without incident.
The plane was ‘pummeled by hail’ shortly after take-off, a passenger said.
Another described it as like a ‘roller coaster ride.’
There was also heavy turbulence.
“The Milan Malpensa to JFK flight was diverted to Rome after it encountered adverse weather,” the airline said.
Technicians were ‘conducting a thorough evaluation of the aircraft’ in Rome.
