Disney gets green light for a fifth Florida theme park
Walt Disney Co and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis seem ready to settle their differences.
A long-running legal battle and war of words could now be over.
The DeSantis appointed Disney oversight district voted to allow for further Disney expansion.
They voted unanimously and a final hearing on the proposal is set for June 12.
This could potentially lead to the construction of a fifth major theme park at Walt Disney World.
The agreement between Disney and the Central Florida Tourism and Oversight District would last 15 years and could see Disney invest up to $17 billion.
The proposal allows for 14,000 more hotel rooms and acres of new retail space.
About $10 million would be invested in affordable housing projects locally.
There would also be significant infrastructure work to ease congestion around Disney parks.
