Disneyland Resort generates USD5.7 billion for SoCal, study says
A report says the Southern California economy benefits from an estimated $5.7 billion a year from Disneyland Resort.
An independent study was commissioned by The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division which says contributes indirectly to the creation of 25,000 other jobs in Southern California in addition to the Disney workforce of 28,000 people.
"We’ve just had great growth and I think that plays out with the expansion of the Disney California Adventure," Disneyland President Michael Colglazier said.
"I think it’s a great boost for tourism in Southern California overall."
Disneyland Resort features two theme parks, three hotels, and the Downtown Disney district.
Arduin, Laffer & Moore Econometrics looked at visitor numbers, park employees and local businesses in the study.
A similar study conducted in 2009 estimated an economic impact of $4.7 billion.
Visitors spend about $1.4 billion a year in food, lodging, shopping and transportation at local businesses, the study said.
"It’s pretty clear that Disneyland is a popular family entertainment destination and is one of the top reasons why people choose to visit Southern California," said Ford Scudder, chief operating officer at Arduin, Laffer & Moore Econometrics.
