DOT backs JetBlue in fight for Amsterdam slots
The US has added its voice to calls opposing the Netherlands’ plan to cut slots at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.
Amsterdam slot reductions for summer 2024 will lead to the exclusion of JetBlue, which only launched Amsterdam flights this summer.
JetBlue’s plight has now been supported by the Department of Transportation.
The DOT says it is ‘unjustifiable and unreasonable’ with the DOT mulling possible retaliation.
Before that happens, the DOT will meet with the Netherlands and EU officials for talks next week.
National carrier KLM will also lose Amsterdam flight slots under the proposals.
JetBlue had already urged the DOT to take retaliatory action against KLM regarding the latter’s slots at New York JFK Airport as a response.
“We will defer for now a decision on further countermeasures, including those proposed by JetBlue,” the DOT said.
The Dutch government said it is now reviewing the US response
