EasyJet to further target business travellers
EasyJet plans to introduce technology next year giving parts of the business travel community access to its inventory.
Until now the low-cost airline has dealt almost exclusively direct with customers on the web forcing other travel players to screen-scrape its site.
Distribution development manager Jerry Dunn said the carrier wanted take back control of some of the business being done this way.
“In an uncontrolled way 6% to 10% of our sales are being distributed by third parties. We’re now engaging with travel management companies, corporations and other intermediaries.”
The technology is scheduled for release in the first quarter of next year and easyJet will then provide it to the companies it wants to do business with.
Dunn added that the airline was not interested in distributing to the leisure market and would continue to attract that market direct online.
“It’s about working with the business travel market more intelligently to drive more incremental business.”
Dunn also said the website would be upgraded next year and that he would like to see some new elements such as using mobile phone technology.
The airline has already trialled some projects such as last-minute insurance sales and flight updates on mobile phones.
“There are so many opportunities out there that we can distribute to. We have not really gone beyond the internet yet. The most important thing is to focus on the bottom line and make sure you are doing things for the right reasons.”
