ebookers sale talks “continuing”
Ebookers says discussions are continuing about a possible sale of the company.
Issuing a trading statement for the three months ending September 30, the online travel company said: “These discussions may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company and the board will make a further announcement as appropriate.”
No other details were forthcoming.
Ebookers said trading in the crucial July-Septmber peak summer period had been “encouraging” with gross sales of between £155 million-£157 million.
“Growth continues to be driven by high online sales, with offline sales decreasing in both relative and absolute terms as business continues to shift to the web,” the company said.
Chief executive Dinesh Dhamija said: “Online and web-enabled sales are now 65% of our business and are growing strongly. We have also taken significant manpower-related costs out of our business are are better positioned for future profitability.”
Ebookers has cut 400 staff in Europe since January, reducing costs by 10% over the previous quarter.
Full finacial results for the third quarter of 2004 are to be issued on November 15 plus a trading statement on the final quarter.
