Etihad Airways, China Eastern Airlines announce JV
Etihad Airways and China Eastern Airlines have inked a first of its kind airline joint venture agreement to deepen operational collaboration between the airlines.
It marks the first commercial airline joint venture between a Middle Eastern and a Chinese airline.
The Etihad Airways – China Eastern Airlines JV will allow the airlines to jointly develop and grow routes between the UAE and China, creating a stronger combined network.
The JV will offer expanded travel options for passengers flying between major Chinese cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an, and Kunming, and to and from the UAE and beyond.
The airlines plan to implement the joint venture cooperation in early 2025 after securing all necessary regulatory clearances.
Additionally, both airlines will introduce full reciprocity to their existing frequent flyer programs in the fourth quarter of 2024.
This allows passengers to earn and redeem rewards when flying with either airline.
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, said: “This JV marks a significant milestone. The JV will allow Etihad and China Eastern to offer travellers enhanced travel options and value.”
“We are confident the JV will unlock a new era of travel opportunities.”
