Event Professionals seek industry placements.

Saturday, 03 Aug, 2006 0

John Alwyn-Jones, Chairman of TravelMole becomes involved in a range of activities and amongst them recently has been the launch in Martin Place last week with The Hon Tim Fischer and M. Laurent Delahousse, the Consul General for France in Sydney of Dreamquest 2006, a trek across Australia from Sydney to Darwin by 20 vintage Citroen cars.

It is always a challenge to find high quality professionals to assist with an event of this nature, but the Mole very fortunately happened upon a treasure trove of talent.

Andrew Leary, Head of the International College of Management Sydney, which is located in the former St Patrick’s building overlooking Manly, happened to mention that the courses offered at the College include Event Management and Tourism and a quick phone call to Anne-Maria Flynn, the Head of Event Management Studies, resulted in over a dozen top quality students coming down to Martin Place at 5:00am on a very wet day to assist in running the event and very professionally too.

The challenge now is that all these students all have to find a paid placement of 1,200 hours in the event industry or at an event.

One of the students at the Dreamquest launch Cassie Beacher from Cowra summed it up and gave an insight to the challenge she is facing by saying, “As part of my course I am requested to complete 1200 hours of Paid industry training, as I am from the Cowra in the country I do not have any contacts in Sydney!”

She added, “I was just wondering whether you knew anyone in events or in travel or tourism that organised events or an event committee that would consider taking me on, as I am such a keen student and I am determined not to let the fact that I come from a country town place me behind these big city kids!”

So, here is the challenge for the industry, with which the Mole has promised to do whatever is necessary – we all need to find paid placements for these excellent students and The Mole has no hesitation in recommending any of them.

If you are an event organiser or are organising an event, whether it be a concert, fundraiser, seminar series, roadshow or whatever and need a dynamic, determined, tenacious event professional to work for you for short period of time, then email John Alwyn-Jones at [email protected] now and he will act as an intermediary and put parties in contact with each other.

So, get clicking, send John an email and do yourself a big favour by offering one of these students a placement as soon as possible.

An appeal by The Mole
