Fast-growing group travel targeted by TripHub

Group travel should grow to a $175 billion business as early as 2008 for an increase of 60% over the next two years, says PhoCusWright.

They report the fastest growth is coming from the smaller leisure gatherings.

TripHub says the industry traditionally defines “groups” as ten or more people, typically traveling on the same itinerary.

TripHub, however, extends this definition to include any trip outside a nuclear family – if it involves more than one form of payment, it’s a group.

Since launching last year, the company has has been used by thousands of customers to plan everything from multi-generational family vacations and reunions, to golf, ski and spa getaways with friends, to celebrations (milestone birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, bachelor/ette parties), to soccer tournaments and other trips with their clubs and teams.

“TripHub’s free service eliminates the headaches associated with group communication and decision making and brings the fun and excitement of travel into the planning process,” said John Pope, vice president of marketing.

Some of TripHub’s key findings sent to TravelMole:

*  The majority of TripHub groups include fewer than 10 travelers.

*  Nearly two thirds of TripHub’s customers are planning their trips over 2 months in advance and roughly 40% are planning 4+ months in advance.

*  Almost two thirds of TripHub customers are planning weekend or long weekend trips. Roughly 10% are planning extended vacations of 2 weeks or longer.

*  Nearly 70% of its customers are traveling in the US with, Las Vegas as the top destination.
